Brand new Indie musical How Soon Is Now? is set to embark on a UK tour this autumn. The musical tells a story of mates, music and magic – finding your place and finding yourself. It celebrates Northern voices and features a live soundtrack of iconic 90s Indie anthems from the likes of The Stone Roses, Radiohead and The Smiths. The show captures the high and lows, darkness and light of a big night out on New Year’s Eve.
Bethan McLean plays Jean, a Welsh outsider, is stuck in a life that feels too small. In a 90s nightclub in Manchester, Jean meets the life and soul of the party Angie, who will played by Kaitlyn Akinpelumi, and the warm and compassionate Polly, who will be played by Laura Robinson.
DJ Spin Jim is played by Darragh Cowley, shaping the rhythm of the night through iconic 90s tune. His ‘Puck-like’ master of ceremonies blurs the boundaries between memory, fantasy and reality.
Theo Woolford plays Carl, Jean’s controlling boyfriend, and LJ Willow completes the band ensemble.
How Soon Is Now? is presented by Box of Tricks and written by Sian Owen. Also in the creative team are Director Adam Quayle for Box of Tricks, Designer Hannah Sibai, Musical Director Vidar Norheim and Movement Director Chris Brown.
The musical opens at the Lowry in Salford Quays on 1st October 2026 and runs until 3rd October 2026, before touring to Storyhouse in Chester, The Dukes in Lancaster, Theatre Royal Wakefield, Loading Bay in Bradford, Exeter Northcott Theatre, Tobacco Factory Theatres in Bristol, Stockton Arts Centre, New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich, Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse in Sheffield and Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough, where the tour concludes on 7th November 2026.
