Although Taylor Swift recently toured the UK a lot of people just couldn’t justify the cost of tickets or could not get their hands on one as the whole tour sold out in record time. Xenna and her team have swept in to save the day and let some young Swifties enjoy all the hit songs they love so much.
This show comprises of Xenna in the role of Taylor Swift, with six very talented dancers performing a chronological journey through the Eras of Swift. There is presumably an incredibly large wardrobe truck to drive them around as every second song there is a costume change. All the backing dancers have outfits to complement that of ‘Taylor’ and there are various light up or shimmery dancing props. These include sparkly laser light fans, fluffy umbrellas, glowing balls, massive wings with lights throughout – every song has its own look and “ooh factor” to wow those watching.
The majority of the audience are young girls and their mums, many of whom are dressed up too. There is so much sparkle in the room, so many shimmery tops and flashing trainers, it is quite a spectacle. The marketing is very clever, with various sparkly light up items, and the obligatory friendship bracelets, for sale on the merchandise stand. Before the interval we are all encouraged to name all our Swifty crew attending Xenna’s show on her latest Instagram reel, with the chance of winning a prize and maybe getting a shout out in the second half. This is a very effective way of getting some new social media followers and has Mums scrabbling for their phones as they queue for ice cream: “what have we to do again, the girls were screaming so much I couldn’t hear the instructions, but she’s desperate for me to get her mentioned”.
It would be interesting to know how many people took up the offer of a meet and greet before the show (for an extra £19) with this tribute act. Although she very much looks the part and any little girls will treasure any selfies with her for a long time. There is also the question of whether they all realise that it is not really Taylor Swift that they are screaming at, had made placards for, and are invited to leave friendship bracelets with the staff for.
It is certainly a fun night, we are taught dances for We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, we are encouraged to sing along, and take as many photos and videos as we like – as long as we tag Xenna on social media. Little girls can scream very loudly and very shrilly so our ears may never be the same again but many parents went to bed knowing their child had “the best day ever!” and that is a priceless experience.
