Original Theatre and Theatr Clwyd have announced full casting for Torben Betts’ darkly comic new thriller The Other Side of Murder.
When celebrated TV medium Darius Divine, host of hit light-entertainment show The Other Side, plans a cosy family dinner, he expects awkward small talk. He doesn’t expect his pregnant lover, his Gilbert and Sullivan obsessed mother-in-law, or a night of ghostly visitations and explosive revelations. As dinner burns and tensions rise, the line between performance and reality begins to shatter. Secrets surface and jealousies ignite.
Star of stage and screen Rufus Hound will lead the company as Darius Divine. He is joined by Susie Blake who has previously been seen in Torben Betts’ Murder in the Dark and Murder at Midnight. She will play Miriam. Musical theatre star Aisha Jawando plays Laura, Beth Lilly will take on the role of Jen and Andy McLeod will play Jason (he will also understudy Darius). Completing the cast are understudies Sarah Lawn, Maddy Banks and Oliver Byng.
The new play written by Torben Betts will be directed by Philip Franks. Colin Falconer will design the set and costumes, whilst Jason Taylor is lighting designer, Max Pappenheim is sound designer and composer and John Bulleid is illusion designer. The creative team is completed by casting director Emma Sylvester, associate director Joshua Miles, production manager Brian Watson, costume supervisor Chrissy Maddison and props supervisor Katie Balmforth.
Funny, shocking and deliciously unsettling, The Other Side of Murder is a wild theatrical ride that will have audiences laughing one minutes and gasping the next.
The tour opens at Theatr Clwyd in Mold on 4th September 2026, before touring to Guildford, Cardiff, Eastbourne, Dublin, Blackpool, Bromley and Southampton.
In 2027, the tour continues to High Wycombe, Derby, Malvern, Northampton, Darlington, Leeds, Salisbury and Coventry.
