Universal Theatrical Group and Working Title Films have announced that the original award-winning production of Billy Elliot the Musical will embark on a new national tour and make its long-awaited return to London. This marks the production’s first West End season in over a decade, with a limited run scheduled at the Adelphi Theatre from 12 February to 31 July 2027.
Prior to its London return, the production will tour nationally, including a festive engagement at the Palace Theatre Manchester from 2 December 2026 to 9 January 2027. While full touring dates and casting details are yet to be revealed, tickets for performances in Sunderland, Manchester, Edinburgh, and London are set to go on sale on 9 March 2026 at 10.00 am.
Composer Elton John and Director Stephen Daldry issued a joint statement expressing their delight at the revival. They remarked that creating the show was one of the most inspiring moments of their careers, adding that bringing it back for a UK tour and West End season is “incredibly emotional and exciting.” Describing the production as bold, British, and full of heart, they noted that the story feels more relevant than ever and look forward to introducing it to a new generation.
Based on the acclaimed film, the musical is set in a northern mining town during the 1984/’85 miners’ strike. It chronicles Billy’s journey from the boxing ring to the ballet class, where he discovers a passion for dance that unites his family, inspires his community, and changes his life. Since its premiere, the production has been seen by over 12 million people across five continents and has received over 80 international awards, including ten Tony Awards and five Olivier Awards.
The revival brings together the multiple award-winning creative team behind the film, including writer and lyricist Lee Hall, director Stephen Daldry, and choreographer Peter Darling, alongside Elton John’s score. The production features scenic design by Ian MacNeil, costume design by Nicky Gillibrand, lighting design by Rick Fisher, sound design by Paul Arditti, and hair and make-up design by Campbell Young. Musical supervision is provided by Martin Koch.
Billy Elliot the Musical is presented by Universal Theatrical Group and Working Title Films, based on the Universal Pictures/Studio Canal film. The show is produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Jon Finn, with David Furnish and Angela Morrison serving as executive producers.
