Show Time! Is a very energetic offering from Ciarán Treanor, opening with a fantastic full cast dance number that really captures the audience’s attention.
The story follows the lead up to Isabella’s (Jane Tuohy) opening night (and also her birthday party), and the many interactions and moments that seem to capture her life and personality. The audience develops an understanding of her through the way she reassures her producers, humours the actor that will be playing her (Sorcha Herlihy) in the biopic, sidelines the director looking to learn from her (Carla Foley) and suffers through a complex relationship with her daughter (Grace Moore). There is also an underlying health theme that beeps ominously in the background.
The cast is large with role changes throughout, and the story jumps around quite a bit during the 25-minute running time, perhaps with a bit too much to say in such a limited time frame. The highlights are undoubtedly the opening dance sequence, some great comedic moments happening to the side of the main storyline, and some very interesting ideas on motherhood, as well as a wonderfully enthusiastic cast that make the show. Definitely something to keep an eye out for if it evolves!
