Ordinary Days is bought to you by BB Theatre Productions.
Following four young individuals – Warren (Niven Willet) is a failed artist who collects things from the people who populate the streets where he roams. In everything he collects, he projects positivity and desire. One thing he picks up is Debs (Georgina Parsons) dissertation notebook. Warren finds Debs email address within the notebook and makes contact to return it to its rightful owner.
Claire (Sophie Spencer) and Jason (Ashleigh Wells) are in a relationship but clearly annoy each other – getting frustrated at the smallest of things. During an argument Jason asks Claire to marry him. Claire then descends into a drunken mess where we learn about her previous tragedy. Spencer plays the role with complete sincerity and is extremely moving to witness.
Director, TJ Lloyd, has utilised a minimalistic set of three coloured boxes brilliantly – not only perfect for the rigours of the fringe, but also in ensuring the production floats from location to location with ease.
Despite the cast not being mic’d – all four performers showcase excellent voices, which is arguably the productions strongest suit. Parsons in particular being considerably moving during her spine-tingling rendition of ‘Calm’
BB Productions revival of Ordinary Days is a heart-warming affair. Make sure you catch it on the last leg of its run in Edinburgh and don’t miss the opportunity to hear these incredible voices.
Runs until August 28, 2022
