The Grand Opera House York’s annual Christmas pantomime is back and it’s set to be bigger, bolder and more star-studded than ever. This year’s production, Cinderella, will boast glittering production values and a laugh-a-minute script, and today, the Grand Opera House and producers UK Productions have unveiled complete principal casting.
Tobias Turley rose to national fame as the winner ITV’s Mamma Mia! I Have A Dream and can currently be seen starring in Hot Mess. He will take to the stage as Prince Charming, alongside musical theatre star Rachel Grundy. Grundy’s credits span the West End and major UK tours, including The Rocky Horror Show, Legally Blonde, and Starlight Express. Her Cinderella is set to bring a mix of modern sparkle and heartfelt storytelling to the classic fairytale heroine, whilst Turley will bring his velvet voice and romantic flair to the production.
Alongside Turley and Grundy, Lisa George will sprinkle her own brand of stardust over Cinderella as the Fairy Godmother. George is one of Britain’s most recognisable and best-loved TV stars, best known for her decade-long portrayal of Beth Tinker in Coronation Street. She is also no stranger to the stage, having begun her career in live performance.
Jimmy Bryant, one of the UK’s top comedy performers, will bring buckets of warmth, cheek and infectious energy as the ever-lovable Buttons. A favourite with pantomime audiences nationwide, Bryant’s unique style of comedy and connection with young audiences make him the perfect host for the ball.
Completing the line up are West End drag superstars Luke Attwood and Brandon Nicholson as the Ugly Sisters. The two masters of mischief are bringing a double dose of diva to York, armed with cutting one-liners, scandalous shade and a wardrobe so fierce it should come with flashing lights and a fire hazard warning.
With a brand new script by Jon Monie, Cinderella is set to be packed with affectionate nods to pantomime traditions, contemporary wit and magical storytelling that captivates all generations.
