Local band UNF are celebrating releasing two songs and their latest music video for Wannabe at well known Aberdeen music venue Café Drummonds. Filmed by Barry Thackrey, who is also at the gig working on the next in the series of videos, as this band likes to do things a bit differently and has a story running through their latest series of videos.
It is a late start to the evening, but this just gives the other bands more time to delight the audience. The Velvet Room kick off the night of live music and do a fantastic set including their singles Feet Don’t Fail Me Now and Pinocchio, which also has a video filmed in this very venue. The lead singer James is full of charisma and encourages the audience to move closer promising they will not bite.
Once this fantastic warm-up is over its time for UNF, who have a dramatic countdown to welcome them to the stage. They also perform an amazing set with very dynamic performances. Unlike The Velvet Room, who follow the traditional four man setup, UNF are two guitarists and a drummer. Both Spuggy and Euan take turns in singing as they skilfully strum their guitars. They also engage with the crowd, including shaking hands with some Status Quo fans who come from another gig and are overjoyed to find a band playing some of their covers. Barry Thackrey is on stage and off for a couple of songs, videoing some of the set for the next music video. It will be fun to see the results and who from the audience makes it into the final edit.
The set list includes over fifteen songs and includes many of their original songs including Sharon and Wish You Well. They have an extensive back catalogue having been together for over twelve years and their sound includes some very heavy rock, a bit of blues and a bit of punk. There really is something for everyone.
A fantastic night full of energy and enthusiasm and following both bands on social media will ensure you don’t miss their future gigs.
