Hot diggity dog. What’s a hound to do when the haemorrhoids are on his tail?
Enter Brad Jon Kane. This furry-eared comedian fights piles with nutrition and Dylanesque tunes. A winning combo, we’re sure you’ll agree.
Unhinged is a varied, work-in-progress show that demonstrates Kane’s creativity in storytelling. From choose-your-own adventures to Groundhog Day style shootings. As a work-in-progress, it’s the ideal space to play and try out new ideas, and he takes advantage of this to its full potential.
Kane’s staple cowboy style antics are a fantastic fit for the deadpan delivery he specialises in. His characters are believable, consistent and fully realised. It’s this deadpan delivery that adds to the surreal style. Are we really watching a scene with a dog with an anus ailment? We sure are! Kane has a sensitivity and soulfulness to his performance style that means we really root for the characters he portrays.
The show may be in its early stages of development, but there’s still much joy to be found in the anti-comedy angle of this broadly bizarre show. The strangest things can be funny when you’re sat amidst a crowd of eager alternative comedy fans, in a room decked out like your nan’s 70s living room. All hail Sweet Venues at the Yellow Book Bar, and the fantastic team behind Swans Not Scones, for making this intimate space available for alternative comedy performers.
Unhinged is a subtle, surreal and earnest show that offers promise and potential as it’s developed into a fully formed hour.
