Nathan D’Arcy Roberts is a genuine, authentic and hilarious storyteller who delivers a confident and fun show which pulls from his life experiences to date and the observations he has made along the way.
Opening the show with a humble and well-deserved brag of his likeness to Prince, he was quick to riff off with the audience, particularly one young couple with a current ‘it’s complicated’ status (having broken up three weeks prior) who provided the perfect set up for inducing belly laughs around the room.
Tackling the question “where are you REALLY from?” and providing an answer and advice on when and which McDonalds you should not feel safe in – and the ones you should, Nathan adequately delves into topics of being mixed-race, his father’s prison-time and similarities to Denzel Washington, and living in Luton.
Despite an audience medical mishap mid-show, of which he deserves credit for handling with the upmost care and being able to continue the show (with the audience’s green light) like a true professional, Nathan’s performance was polished, clever and a pleasure to watch, and one that should be on your list to see at this year’s Fringe.
