Laser Kiwi: Rise of the Olive – Edinburgh Fringe 2023, Assembly Roxy

Reviewer: Harriet Chappell

Laser Kiwi undoubtedly stands out as a shining gem, capturing the hearts and minds of audiences with their unique blend of cleverness, good humour, and wit that could only come from our Southern Hemisphere kiwi counterparts.

As the curtains rose to reveal a jar of olives, it became abundantly clear that this was no ordinary show— and we are reassured to expect an hour of nonsense. They’ve already done the heavy lifting (particularly for the likes of me) having reviewed and rated each and every skit we are about to see. What follows is a cohesive blend of sketch comedy, surprising circus and arial acts, olive eating, and crocodile socks and crocs which leaves the audience both awestruck and in stitches.

Imogen, Zane and Degge each play to their own strengths, and it’s clear that when the trio mix these together it’s a winning combination.

They have a strong knack for audience interaction, and the closing number left many of us envious that we weren’t one of the lucky few to be invited to frolic on stage and give impersonating an olive a try.

They deliver a rollercoaster of silliness, and it’s the unpredictability that works.

In the mesmerizing world of fringe performances, Laser Kiwi is truly an unforgettable one.
