It’s that time of year when we launch our annual series of Fringe preview Q & A’s.Next up it’s Aatif Nawaz.
In one sentence tell us about your show.
It’s a 60 minute insight into the way I think about stand-up comedy, where my jokes come from and what they do.
What made you decide to bring a show this year?
Edinburgh has always been good for me. It’s always led to some opportunity or another, whether a chance to do stand-up on TV or a radio special or just lovely feedback. It’s the best place in the world to test a new show. And a new show is what I have…
Any advice you’ve heard or can give to anyone coming to the Fringe for the first time?
Try and come on a weekday. Free doesn’t mean free. Keep plenty of fivers on you at any given time and try to cap your deep fried Mars Bars consumption to five over the month.
What makes your show stand out from all of the others on offer? (Don’t say that it’s because you’re in it!)
This is a real look into my mind. Every minute detail I consider when I write a show. Should I do that joke? Sure everyone likes it but it makes me hate myself. And what do I want from comedy? What impact do my words have. It’s very transparent. Very self-analytical. It’s me at my most honest.
What show, other than your own, do you not want to miss?
I have too many friends who are stand-up comedians…this question can get me into a lot of trouble. So let’s just say I’m really excited about seeing loads and loads of shows at this year’s Fringe and leave it at that?
