Based on the TV series created by Dave Gingell, Dave Jones and Rob Lee
The circus has come to town and this time, you’re all invited. It has all the necessary ingredients for a fun and engaging family show.
There’s a tiger on the loose, the big top’s electrics are faulty and only our hero can save the day. Set, of course, in the fictional town of Pontypandy, Fireman Sam Saves the Circus is an uplifting piece of children’s theatre which is as bright and clean as Sam’s fire engine.

The audible gasps from the audience when the big red machine first arrives is testament to the impressive stage design but it’s the characterful costumes that really steal the show. Yes, the plot is tenuous but that doesn’t matter here. This critic, who attended along with a 3 year old, was enthralled by the vibrancy and theatrical magic of the piece. This more is more approach in the show’s design is just the tonic for a dazzling and delightful afternoon’s entertainment.
There’s safety lessons to be learned too as at times – it was quite educational – although perfectly pitched for the target crowd. Running at just over 50 minutes it’s just the right length to keep youngsters entertained.
All of your favourite characters from the TV series are there including the calamitous Norman Price and of course Sam himself. The whole show is held together brilliantly by Bruno the ringmaster. There is, of course, an audible buzz from the youngsters in the auditorium but this (kind of) added to the excitement. Look out for the impressive glitter cannon explosion.
