ED FRINGE: The Improv Musical – Gilded Balloon Patter Hoose Doonstairs, Edinburgh

Reviewer: Kia Lawrence

With a very clever concept and improvisation at its heart The Improv Musical is one not to be missed. The evening starts with a compere coming on stage asking for the audiences’ suggestions on what they would like the show to be about. The audience gets to suggest a setting, a title and two characters. The six cast members and the four-piece band then create a musical around the audiences’ suggestions.

At this performance the setting was a ‘fruit bowl’, the story contained ‘Gemma Collins’ and ‘Yoda’ and the title that got selected was ‘Fruity One You Are’. This then led to a comical production of a strong accented Gemma Collins and a grammarless Yoda in a rock opera love affair never to be forgotten.

The six-strong cast not only has the audience in belly-laughs throughout but also surprise us with excellent musical skills, that when combined provide a not to be missed production. The cast does an amazing job to fill the time and make the task of creating a no-script show appear effortless, especially when ensuring everything is family-friendly.

So go along and join in the fun, take lots of ideas with you and maybe you could be the inspiration for the next performance.
