Music/Lyrics/Director: Krishna Patel
Theatre of Diversion brings you Sh!tshow. Written by, directed by and performed by Krishna Patel, there are some funny and comical moments throughout, but this is a production that needs a lot of work musically.
The story follows six relatable characters whose revelations occur in the bathroom. From pregnancy scares to anxiety over hand washing, the cast reveal some confessional moments that are all too common in the bathroom.
The show has some key one-liner moments and some strong elements of the script including using lyrics from Taylor Swift particularly for the current generation making it relatable as an audience member. The ensemble in the finale worked well paired with the choreography that was used to bring the show alive in the last number.
Some standout performances within the cast include the voice of Sherry Dassanayake. Additionally, Tom Crossley and their ‘Godfather’ impression was on point.
What this show has in relatability it lacks in quality. With some pitchy moments and inconsistency within the cast, probably best to avoid it like the puddles in front of a urinal or the person trying to flog you perfume. A fun concept but suffers from a whiff of normative determinism.
Runs until August 27, 2022
