Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story certainly resonates with those who lived through the bizarre dramas, heart-rending moments, and juicy headlines of the Princess Diana years.
But younger audience members at Newcastle’s Live Theatre found the show as much of a hoot as those who recognised its twists, turns, and multiple iconic frocks.
Linus Karp is an incredibly winsome drag Diana who seems to resemble her more and more as the evening progresses. Charles is there in appropriately 2D form. And Camilla is a demonic puppet powered manically and bawdily by the other half of Awkward Productions’ writing team, Joseph Martin.

Conspiracy theories and fantasies surrounding the People’s Princess are not only aired but revelled in, in joyful high camp style.
The show opens with a hasty casting session as parts are handed out to willing onlookers. Hats off to all those who took a role or said a line and added to the fun of the whole affair.
The evening has a real Fringe, spontaneous spirit and features video appearances from a lofty Queen (Geri Allen), God herself (Zina Badran), and other big names.
A technical hitch delayed matters for 15 minutes but, with no interval, it was still all over by 9pm. This mad romp is sure to put a smile on your face… unless you are a Royalist.
Runs until 12th July 2025
