BRIGHTON BITES: Jilberto Soto – Even God Knew I was Gay

Back by popular demand for 2017, our Brighton Bites series offer short, witty and slightly tongue-in-cheek insights into shows performing at England’s largest arts festival. Hopefully, they will whet your appetite to try something new at this year’s Brighton Fringe.

Here, Jilberto Soto tells us about his show,Even God Knew I was Gay, which he’ll be performing at TheWarren.

How would you describe your show in one sentence?
The gayest one-hour comedy show

Why Brighton Fringe for this show?
The community support for gay acts is outstanding, makes a gay comedian feel welcomed.

How have you been preparing for Brighton Fringe?
I have had several previews (London and Seattle) with over 150 participants total. I have hired a marketing company for my flyer work and doing a couple of promo videos to broadcast across all my social media outlets. Also, direct emails to associations I

What do you think sets your show apart from all the other festival offerings?
I have a unquiet perspective of being a Mexican American, who moved to London last year. I also have an interesting story about coming out to my Catholic family and the journey we go through together to learn more.

What’s the show that you don’t want to miss at this year’s Brighton Fringe (apart from your own)?
Funny women auditions

What’s the best bit of advice you’ve ever been given for performing at a Fringe Festival?
Expect nothing, give your everything

If your show was a flavour of ice cream being sold on Brighton Pier, what would it be?
Rainbow sherbet
