Liverpool, recently crowned the 7th best city in the world by Timeout, is set to become the epicentre of improvised creativity once again. Supported by the Unity Theatre and Liverpool John Moores University, the Liverpool Improvisation Festival (LiF) 2025 promises an unforgettable experience.
The festival will feature 18 exhilarating shows, including 5 world premieres, and 7 insightful workshops led by renowned improvisers.
LiF brings the best of the world’s improvisation to Liverpool and showcases the best of Liverpool to the world. Building on a legacy of improvisational excellence—from Ken Campbell and Improbable Theatre to Hoof! and Showstoppers—LiF attracts top local, national, and international talent to the heart of the city.
Highlights of the festival include Crime Scene Improvisation (CSI), celebrating their 10th anniversary with the festival. This multi-award-winning group presents a comedic murder mystery, “the world’s daftest whodunnit.” Box of Frogs, a multi-talented and quick-witted group, will create spontaneous songs, sketches, and scenes from audience suggestions. School of Night, celebrating their 20th anniversary, will bring their unique blend of literary improvisation to the festival. This world-renowned troupe first performed at The Globe Theatre. Taxi Tales will feature sixteen international and national improvisers presenting two ensemble shows. “One night on the town” explores the taxi driver as witness, therapist, and confidant, as passengers share their stories under the city lights. Jungle of Emotions, perfect for young minds eager to learn and have spontaneous fun, is part of the festival’s children’s and family offerings.
This is just a taste of what the festival has to offer. The programme also includes clowning, comedy, shadow puppetry, theatre, and storytelling, showcasing the full range of improvised performance.
