Even before the show starts, excited conversation about Terry Pratchett echoes throughout the queue outside the room. A few minutes in you are taken on a journey through Terry Pratchett’s life, both personal and professional, which relights the passion you have for Discworld (or lights it for the few who have never read the series).
Burrows imparts an impressive amount of knowledge onto the audience and lets you into the corners of his life, from the beginning of his career when he witnessed a corpse first hand, to the end of his life when he fought for more funding into Alzheimer’s disease and the right to die peacefully. Death certainly is a huge theme of this show, popping up in so much of Pratchett’s literature, however it is without morbidity and more of an explorative and comforting theme.
Overall, the hour is packed with humour, factoids, and motivational convictions that will leave you feeling fuller and more optimistic. The power of stories in the world has never been more evident.
