If you’re up for a wacky, spooky foray into the wonderfully unhappy world of an infamously gloomy family, you’re in for an absolute treat.

Based on the book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, The Addams Family reanimates characters from the cult-classic 1990s film – bringing them onto the stage with a burst of glittering, gruesome gusto.

Following the Addams family as they struggle to appear ‘normal’ for the sake of their love-stricken teenage daughter, Wednesday (Kingsley Morton), and her fiance’s family, the show is a musical and comedic delight.

As the ever-gliding Morticia, Joanne Clifton (of Strictly Come Dancing and The Rocky Horror Show fame) is sultry, sarcastic, and solemn in equal measure – riffing brilliantly with her devoted husband, Gomez, (Cameron Blakely) as they navigate the trappings of parenthood.

Bouncing from one toe-tapping number to the next – ‘When You’re an Addams’ and ‘Full Disclosure’ being particular highlights – the cast, costumes, and choreography keep the pace of the show moving quickly and have the audience chuckling (and gasping) with surprise.

Standout cast members include Scott Paige as Uncle Fester, whose comedic timing, physicality, and powerful voice make him a pleasure to watch, and Dickon Gough as Lurch, who portrays the family’s fantastically ‘undead’ butler with exceptionally slow and heavy footsteps.

Worth a mention, too, is Kara Lane as Alice – her portrayal of Alice’s potion-induced transformation from a quiet housewife to outspoken woman-in-charge is epic, and her voice is a powerhouse.

From the moment the curtain lifts and Diego Pitarch’s fantastically designed set is revealed, right through to the roof-raising applause as the cast take their final bows, you’ll be giddy with delight.

Runs until 20 November 2021
