Entering into a underground world with neon lights a booming music, two women take center stage wearing black, skimpy latex and killer diamante heels, where both create a sensual pole dance performance to greet the audience as they arrive. Controversial opening (some might think) but the controversy does not end here.
Sisterin association with The Arches is a devised performance from sisters Amy Cade; a sex worker / porn star and Rosanna Cade; a shaven-head lesbian. They each divulge their sexual experiences, childhood memories and their similar feminist beliefs. Nothing is spared as they literally bare-all for the audience.
They explore themselves through a variation of movements which enhances their ideas of the female body and how often it is a spectacle in itself. The sisters question why society makes pre-conceived choices for the public and why alternative ideas are shunned and frowned upon. This is at the heart of the well-crafted and creative performance and is further enhanced by their ability to remove the negative connotations often associated with sex. The Cade’s humble attitude in confiding in the audience must be commended as they share their deepest experiences and memories both positive and negative making the audience feel at ease. The relationship between the sisters is heart-warming and is further seen through multimedia showing their childhood where their love for one another is strong and the differences between them can never break their bond.
This is empowering and thought-provoking performance art delivered in a sincere and honest way, giving a different outlook on sexual identity, the sex industry and choice.
