The Royal Shakespeare Company’s gripping production of Titus Andronicus is heading to Hampstead Theatre for a limited London run this autumn, with performances scheduled from 5 September to 11 October.
Leading the cast once again is acclaimed actor Simon Russell Beale, reprising the title role. Beale, a familiar face to Hampstead audiences, returns following his celebrated appearances in The Invention of Love and Mr Foote’s Other Leg. With numerous accolades under his belt, including three Olivier Awards, a Tony, two BAFTAs and a British Independent Film Award, his stage and screen presence continues to captivate.
Joining Beale is Ken Nwosu as Aaron, known for his powerful performances in White Noise, An Octoroon and Three Sisters. He brings further depth to the cast alongside Emma Fielding as Marcia Andronicus, Wendy Kweh as Tamora, and Letty Thomas as Lavinia. The ensemble also features Jeremy Ang Jones, Max Bennett, Marlowe Chan-Reeves, Danny Collins, Maximus Evans, Thomas Josling, Joel MacCormack, Jerone Marsh-Reid and Sharita Oomeer. Young Lucius will be played by Charlie Banks and Osian Salter.
Directed by Max Webster, the production offers a searing look at Shakespeare’s most violent tragedy through a modern lens. The action unfolds as Titus exacts brutal revenge on a foe, unknowingly sparking a horrific spiral of retaliation. Webster’s vision impressed audiences at the RSC’s Swan Theatre, and now London theatregoers will have their chance to experience the intensity up close.
Webster’s credits include The Importance of Being Earnest, Macbeth and Henry V, with his production of Life of Pi earning multiple Olivier and Tony Awards. The creative team includes Joanna Scotcher (set and costume), Lee Curan (lighting), Tingying Dong (sound), Matthew Herbert (composer), Benjamin Kwasi Burrell (musical direction), Jade Hackett (movement), and directors Rachel Bown-Williams and Ruth Cooper-Brown (fight and intimacy). Voice work is by Barbara Houseman and casting by Matthew Dewsbury CDG and Debbie O’Brien. Kwame Owusu steps in as revival director.
