NEWS: Wicked UK Tour confirms Ashleigh Gray as new Elphaba

It’s been announced that Ashleigh Gray will take over from Nikki Davies Jones as Elphaba in the UK tour of Wicked with her first scheduled performance to take place at the Liverpool Empire in September.

Gray has had a long association with the show having originally joined as an ensemble member in the London production in 2007 and then subsequently became the show’s standby Elphaba. She will star alongside current Glinda Emily Tierney.

Current cast members Nikki Davis-Jones (Elphaba), Liam Doyle (Fiyero), Dale Rapley (The Wizard and Doctor Dillamond), George Ure (Boq) and Jemma Alexander (Standby Elphaba) will all play their final performances on Saturday 6th September 2014 at Birmingham Hippodrome. It has been revealed that Davis-Jones will join the London production later on in the year.

Replacing the current cast will be Samuel Edwards (Fiyero), Steven Pinder (The Wizard and Doctor Dillamond), Richard Vincent (Boq) and Jacqueline Hughes (Standby Elphaba).

Wicked has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, a book by Winnie Holzman, musical staging by Wayne Cilento and is directed by two-time Tony Award® winner Joe Mantello. Wicked is based on the international best-selling novel, ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West’, by Gregory Maguire.
