The Lowry in Salford has today announced that War Horse will return to their Lyric Theatre for a summer 2014 season (Wednesday 23 July to Saturday 20 September 2014) with tickets going on sale today at 10am.
Following the highly anticipated North West permiere of War Horse at The Lowry (running form 20 November 2013 to 14 January 2014) author Michael Morpurgo was in the North West today with Joey, the life-size puppet horse and star of the show, to announce a return of the National Theatre’s multi-award-winning production next summer.
War Horse at The Lowry has already become the best-selling show in the venue’s 13 year history with 80,000 tickets already sold.
For Jon Gilchrist, The Lowry’s Marketing Director, sales levels have surprised even their wildest expectations, “War Horse is an extraordinary production and we always knew that it would be popular with North West audiences, but the response has surpassed even our expectations. There are still tickets available for Christmas this year but they are selling fast! By putting an extra 100,000 tickets on sale for summer 2014, we can ensure that even more people from across the North West will get the chance to see this landmark theatre event.”
The second run of War Horse coincides with a number of key dates in the commemoration of the First World War centenary year, the first being 28 July 2014 which marks exactly 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War in 1914.
War Horse will play The Lowry’s Lyric Theatre from 20 November to 18 January before returning on 23rd July and then running until 20th September 2014
