Liverpool’s Tmesis Theatre and Physical Fest are back for 2014 and this year Physical Fest – the only festival of its kind in Europe, celebrates its 10th consecutive annual outing since its launch back in 2005. This year’s festival runs between Fri 23 – Sat 31 May 2014 and for the first time ever, will feature Young Physical Fest; a special festival warm up weekend for young people and their families, which will run on Sat 10 &Sun 11 May prior to the main festival.
Young Physical Fest will feature a weekend of FREE workshops and performances, all taking place at the Bluecoat and will also showcase a brand new collaborative piece between The Bluecoat, local practitioners and local students, created by Tmesis Theatre.
Young Physical Fest opens on Saturday 10th May with a workshop lea by Tim Lenkiewicz, Creative Director of Sqaure Peg Contemporary Circus who’ll lead a workshop designed for those aiming to develop exciting juggling skills. Saturday will also see the highly anticipated unveiling of Fest Out There; a physical performance which is the culmination of a 12 week participatory project in collaboration with The Bluecoat, The Blue Room, The Pad Girls, and local students, created by Tmesis Theatre.
Tim Lenkiewiczwill lead a second workshop on Saturday, entitled Acrobatics for Families, introducing the basics of acrobatics and balances to participants. Young Physical Festival’s final Saturday workshop is perfect for those wanting to explore their artistic and creative sides as The Eggmen, a local company specializing in street theatre and comedy, will be teaching the basics of Mask Work using the trestle style masks.
The second day on Sunday 11th May will begin with Family Dance and Music Jam with Lisi Perry and Mary Prestidge, a specially designed programme for parents and carers and their children. Tim Lenkiewicz returns with an exciting session exploring Acrobatics, which is suitable for beginners and professionals like. And drawing Young Physical Fest to a close will be The Eggmen with their Physical Comedy workshop. A programme perfect for beginners, this all-inclusive workshop will be a laugh-a-minute event which explores the physical and non-verbal nature of comedy.
