Scottish Opera has just announced that Lady Veronica Gibson, wife of the late Sir Alexander Gibson, has been appointed as President of the Company.
Lady Gibson played a key rôle behind the scenes when her husband founded the Company in 1962 and succeeds Baroness Smith of Gilmorehill as President following Scottish Opera’s Annual General Meeting.
Scottish Opera’s General Director, Alex Reedijk said: “As we end our 50thAnniversary celebrations, I am delighted that Lady Gibson has agreed to become Scottish Opera’s President. She is a familiar face to opera-goers and has played an important rôle in our Company’s success over the last 50 years. In making this announcement, we also pay tribute to Baroness Smith, our President since 1998. We are immensely grateful for her contribution to the Company over the last 15 years and thank her for her continued support.”
Scotland’s national opera company continues its autumn/winter season with Mozart’s Don Giovanni followed by Donizetti’s Don Pasquale in the New Year. The company is currently touring Scotland with Handel’s Rodelinda.
