Ronan Keating the former lead singer of irish boyband Boyzone is set to make his West End debut in the rôle of Guy in the hit musical Once.
Taking over the lead rôle from David Hunter, Keating will play the part for a limited run from 17th November 2014 to 21st March 2015. Having admitted to seeing the show several times and crying on each visit, Keating is reported to have said that he is daunted by the prospect of going into a production and that he’s a little bit scared… However he joked at the prospect saying ‘The characters a musician and i’ve spent 20 years trying to be Ronan Keating the musician, so I guess I can spend four months playing another character.’
Once is a stage adaptation of the 2006 film of the same namewritten by Enda Walsh with songs written byGlen HansardandMarkéta Irglová, The production is a simple story of love and loss between a young Irish busker (Guy) and a Czech pianist (Girl). Simply staged with hauntingly beautiful songs Once has truly won many fans for its heartbreaking story.
Keating will join the current cast at the Phoenix Theatre including: Jill Winternitz, Jack Beale, Fiona Bruce, Mark Carlisle, Jamie Cameron, Matthew Ganley, Matthew Hamper, Allison Harding, Daniel Healey, Dogan Mehmet, Loren O’Dair, Tim Parker, Miria Parvin, Tim Prottey-Jones, Sophie Reid, Christina Tedders, Alex Turney, Jez Unwin, Ruth Westley, and Robbie White.
