America’s best-selling “literary funnyman” David Sedaris has announced his first ever full UK tour with his popular show An Evening with David Sedaris. The tour is launched off the back of his second sell-out run at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe which picked up a batch of five star reviews.
Sedaris previously sold out a run at the Fringe in 2011 and has also performed three sell-out stints in London since 2010, including two multi-night runs at London’s Cadogan Hall.
The series Meet David Sedaris on BBC Radio 4 has been hugely popular and with his profile on the rise here in the UK (where Sedaris currently resides) he is setting off on his own 13 date personal road-trip.
This tour starts on 25th March at Manchester’s Lowry Lyric Theatre and culminates on 12th April at Oxford’s Town Hall. The tour also takes in another 4 dates at London’s Cadogan Hall from 27th to 30th March.
Prior to moving to live in the UK and becoming more widely known thanks to his live readings and radio show, Sedaris was already firmly establishing himself as one of America’s most celebrated humour writers. The great skill with which he slices through cultural euphemisms and political correctness proves that Sedaris is a master of satire, one of the most observant writers addressing the human condition today. As one scribe put it, he could “lift your spirits reading out the ingredients of a rice cake.”
David Sedaris’s latest book Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls was released in April this year to universal acclaim. He is also the author of Barrel Fever and Holidays on Ice, as well as collections of personal essays, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, and When You Are Engulfed in Flames, each of which became a bestseller. There are a total of seven million copies of his books in print and they have been translated into 25 languages.
He and his sister, Amy Sedaris, have collaborated under the name The Talent Family and have written half-a-dozen plays which have been produced at La Mama, Lincoln Center, and The Drama Department in New York City. David has been nominated for three Grammy Awards for Best Spoken Word and Best Comedy Album. His most recent live album is David Sedaris: Live For Your Listening Pleasure.
