London looks set for a rockin’ good Summer of 2018. With Jim Steinman’s Bat Out of Hell shortly to be taking up residence at the Dominion Theatre, it has just been announced that, a short walk down Charing Cross Road at the Arts Theatre, another rock musical is on the way. The show is Knights of the Rose and this world premiere production is previewing from 29 June, with a planned run until 26 August.
The show’s creator, Jennifer Marsden, is a qualified barrister, perhaps not the likeliest person to be dreaming up a medieval world of lawlessness and disorder that sounds somewhat inspired by Game of Thrones. We are promised “a high-voltage musical of Shakespearean proportions” and experienced director/choreographer Racky Plews is charged with bringing it all to the stage.
Songs such as Bon Jovi’s Blaze of Glory and Blood on Blood should prove well suited to a dark fantasy adventure that promises betrayal, love, bloodshed and redemption. Steinman gets another West End shout with the Bonnie Tyler classics Holding Out for a Hero and Total Eclipse of the Heart, while songs associated with Black Sabbath, Meatloaf, Robert Palmer and others will also be featured. Less obvious contributions in what could be an anarchic mix come from Mozart (not Rock Me Amadeus) and Purcell. Tickets are on sale now, so let it rock!
Tickets are available from the box office on 020 7836 8463 or online at https://artstheatrewestend.co.
