The Olivier award winning musical follows the story of Hans Christian Anderson’s The Ugly Duckling. As ‘Ugly’ is hatched under the adoring gaze of his proud mum, Ida, his musical adventures begin. Soon after Ugly is born, he is seduced away by a wily Cat who wants to eat Ugly for dinner. Eventually, Ugly escapes but has no idea how to return home. Along his way, he encounters a beautiful Swan, a flock of Geese and a Bullfrog to mention but a few. Join Ugly on his journey to see if he can find his way home and discover who he really is.
Since 1993 there have been over 8000 productions of the musical around the world, and this production sees a continued relationship with the composers and the venue following a production of Just So (Stiles and Drewe’s first musical) in 2010 and the revival of You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown which was directed by Anthony Drewe last year. Drewe has been involved in the casting and selection process sticking firmly with a personal hands on approach.
Honk! Will star Joe Sterling in the title rôle of Ugly, Sterling recently released his first album “Somewhere in my Mind” which is released by Sim G Productions. The production is directed by Madeleine Loftin and is choreographed by west end star Mark White (Ghost, Les Miserables and A Chrous Line) – he will also play Ugly’s father Drake.
This Ugly duckling musical, featuring a live band and a cast of 10, boasts a score brimming with wit, melody and unexpected emotion that will enchant and delight the whole family.
Honk plays at The Tabard Theatre.
