NEWS: Colchesters Man To Man gets London run

Colchester Mercury’s critically acclaimed production of Man To Man is to transfer to London’s Park Theatre this November.

The rarely performed piece was staged at the Essex venue in October 2013, with the London transfer reuniting director Tilly Branson with Tricia Kelly, who recreates the rôle of Ella.

Kelly’s performance in the one-woman play was universally praised with our review highlighting “a superbly sustained performance, visceral but disciplined”.

Man To Man received its British première in 1987, starring Tilda Swinton and the Mercury Theatre’s production is a rare revival. The play was staged in Colchester as a companion piece to their main house production of The Good Person Of Sichuan but now transfers to London in its own right.

Manfred Karge’s one-woman play follows the extraordinary tale of a widow who assumes her dead husbands identity and takes on his job in Nazi Germany in order to keep food on the table.

The ManTo Man transfer is produced by Danielle Tarento in association with the Mercury Theatre Colchester and runs at Park90 from 4 – 30 November.
