Producers have today announced that TV talent show stars Daniel Boys and Lauren Samuels will join the Octagon Theatre, Bolton cast of Howard Goodall’s musical adaptation ofLove Story.
Inspired by Erich Segal’s best-selling novel and subsequent hit film, Love Story is widely regarded as one of the most romantic and moving films of all time.
Taking on the rôle of Oliver Barrett IV will be Daniel Boys, currently playing Sir Lancelot in the Monty Python musical comedy Spamalot at the Playhouse Theatre alongside Jodie Prenger and Joe Pasquale. Boys first came to public attention when he appeared on the successful Andrew Lloyd-Webber talent show Any Dream Will Do in 2007. Since then he’s gone onto star in numerous musicals as well as recording a solo album.
Joining Boys will be fellow TV casting show star Lauren Samuels. Samuels was a finalist in the Andrew Lloyd-Webber BBC series Over the Rainbow, and made her West End debut as Sandy in Grease at the Piccadilly Theatre. She then went on to perform in the smash hit musical We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre, as well as on its 10th Anniversary World Arena Tour. Lauren is currently performing in Water Babies, a new musical based on the novel by Charles Kingsley, at Leicester Curve.
Director Elizabeth Newman, is looking forward to working with Boys and Samuels on the show: “It is a real privilege for me to direct this wonderful play and close the Octagon’s 2013-14 season with yet another powerful musical. Love Story is a remarkable piece, which follows the lives of two people who could not be more different as they fall in love and the journey they go on. It’s also about the music – the play is full of striking music and Daniel Boys and Lauren Samuels will move our audiences when they perform the songs live on stage. I am extremely looking forward to working with these two amazingly talented actors, and can’t wait to see what they bring to this captivating play.”
