Following the visit of Coronation Street bad boy Nigel Pivaro last year, Lowestoft’s Marina Theatre have today announced that former Corrie star Amanda Barrie will be leading this year’s panto, Cinderella.
Known to millions asoneof Coronation Street’s best loved characters, Alma, Barrie spent 20 eventful years in the soap, with her final episode being seen by over 15 million viewers. The episode was so popular that the effect of more than 400,000 kettles being switched onafterwardscreated a power surge on the National Grid.
An accomplished stage and screen actress, alongside her iconic performance in Coronation Street, Barrie is also well known for her appearances in Bad Girls and of course gained international fame as Cleopatra in Carry on Cleo opposite Sid James.
Producer Paul Holman is delighted with the casting “Amanda brings perfect chemistry to the production in the rôle of Fairy Godmother, which she plays with a cocktail of compassion, care and quirkiness. She has a presence on stage where audiences of all ages are engaged and entertained and we all believe in her fairy magic.”
Barrie herself has issued a warm welcome to residents of the Suffolk town “Dear people of Lowestoft, I am so delighted to be coming to spend Christmas with you. Everybody tells me what a beautiful theatre you have and how lovely and friendly you all are. I hope to meet lots of you during the pantomime season, I am greatly looking forward to being Cinderella’s fairy godmother, and hope you will all enjoy our wonderful show.”
