For the first time in a fair few years Mark Thomas has moved across the city from The Traverse and finds a new home at the vibrant yet chaotic surroundings of Summerhall, and it seems a perfect fit for this raw, and passionate call to action.
Our country is under threat, being swallowed up one paving slab, one street, one area at a time. Our rights of way our being attacked by millionaire out-of-towners and multi-international corporations. That street you walked down this morning before you read this review, how long before you are a trespasser on the very same stretch of land?
The answer will be not very long if current trends across the country are anything to go by… But don’t worry, Political activist and comic Mark Thomas is enraged, and he (with our help) will challenge these backward thinking fucktards one piece of cake at a time – yes, cake.
As per the course Thomas is an excellent raconteur, his antics are told with such clarity and colour that you can’t help but feel part of the action. This isn’t a polished, perfectly timed performance like last year’s award winning Cuckooed, instead we get Thomas back to his roots, causing “mischeif” for all the right reasons, he energises the room with political thunder that clearly hits home with his sold out audience.
But a word of warning… Do not go to this show expecting to come out as a passive spectator, instead you are likely to be engaged and primed ready to take action… And for this reviewer his home city of Chester had better watch out… Trespass is about to become personal.
