Jinkx Sings Everything – Laurie Beechman Theatre, New York

Writer: Jinkx Monsoon

Reviewer: Adrienne Sowers

This is not a review. Per the request of the brilliant Jinkx Monsoon at the top of her new, entirely off-the-cuff request-only musical revue, this writer will not be reviewing the show.

This is not a review. It is a reflection on the joy, energy, and command that Jinkx brings to the stage, while putting the fate of the evening in the audience’s hands. It is a recollection of the talent behind a lone drag queen belting every single part to “One Day More” from Les Miserables. It’s a remembrance of a moving rendition of “The Origin of Love” from Hedwig and the Angry Inch, as requested by the audience.

This is not a review. It is a writer putting words on a page and smiling at the memory of grace under pressure, adept piano accompaniment by Joshua Stephen Kartas, and engaging an audience from around the world with wit and an approachable diva spirit. A reflection on an engaging event that finds its cohesion under the mastery of a seasoned, talented performer.

This is not a review. But if it were, it would be a rave.
