Onwards! and upwards is the theme of Iain Stirling’s latest Fringe show, during which he reflects on his life as a millennial and what life is like in your late 20s. Renowned for presenting children’s TV shows and having recently found fame as the narrator on ITV2s Love Island, Stirling attracts a diverse audience.
Now a regular on the UK comedy circuit, Stirling has a charming personality that complements his topical comedy and relatable humour. Unfortunately, Stirling’s delivery is staggered and he often loses his train of thought, caught up in off the cuff comments that throw him (and the audience) into fits of uncontrollable laughter. His material is hilarious however his execution does not do it justice.
Nerves are to be expected when playing to a full house, however, Stirling comes across as unpolished and the disjointed delivery interrupts the flow. Fortunately, he is able to get back on track quickly and there is barely a moment that passes without the audience in tears.
Despite a struggle with the flow, there is no doubt that Iain Stirling is extremely talented. This up and coming comedian is one to watch… With a little polish, Stirling is destined for great things.
