FIVE FAST FRINGE QUESTIONS with Sweatshop

It’s that time of year when we launch our annual series of Fringe preview Q & A’s. Next up are the team from Sweatshop.

In one sentence tell us about your show.

Sweatshop will take your darkest fantasies and your deepest fears and bake them into a sweet confection for you to consume to your heart’s delight, and your soul’s desire.

What made you decide to bring a show this year?

I was thrilled to be invited by Briefs Factory to host Sweatshop in Edinburgh this year. I love their work, and we’ve wanted to collaborate for some time. This creative tryst will hit 10 on the Richter scale and send seismic waves around the globe.

Any advice you’ve heard or can give to anyone coming to the Fringe for the first time?

Take chances, you never know what you’ll discover. Be bold, be brave and leap in.

What makes your show stand out from all of the others on offer? (Don’t say that it’s because you’re in it!)

Sweatshop brings together top notch creative talent that you won’t experience anywhere else. Not only will you be thoroughly entertained, your mind will be expanded and you’ll walk back out into the night with a full heart, dizzy with wonder and provocation.

What show, other than your own, do you not want to miss?

I’m super excited to see Hot Brown Honey, I’ve heard great things about the show, but I don’t actually know anything about it, which is my favourite way to go and see a performance. It means anything could happen.

Finally, the boring but essential bit…

  1. Alas, I do not. Was pretty disappointed with the representation of Sweatshop. I work in makeup and spend a whole lot of time linked to theatre, gay and transgender communities and just expected more. You can be outrageous, edgy and downright shocking but there needs to be an element of class and creativity for me. The guy in the black briefs was talented though. Shame ?
