A rumbling night of sequins, sparkle and sass is in store for those finding themselves in the iridescent world of Cabaret Boheme. Led by ringleader Veronica Blacklace, in a fantastic deep velvet top hat and tailcoat, the audience is charmed and caressed into a magical experience.
The spectacle that is this show consists of several acts, ranging from quirky hula hooping to bold burlesque treats that toast a celebration to all that is weird, wild and against the norm. Blacklace, as a “mad hatter” host in shimmering 7-inch stilettos, also sings accompaniment to several of the acts with her husky, powerful and attention-grabbing voice. Her egotistical qualities – quoted “it’s all about me”, surprisingly make this strong female extremely likeable and her audience interactions are fun, welcoming and put all at ease. She is a natural, bubbling firecracker and warms the crowd up effortlessly. Although there can be a fine line between objectification and female empowerment, the self-love Blacklace displays are uplifting and spreads confidence throughout: a relevant message that permits all women to find their diva within.
As a show full of skilled and stand out acts, all artists are charismatic, engaging and interesting in their individual way. There is an exceptional quality to aerial artist Sasha Flexy who takes to her hoop like a fish to water. She hypnotically flows While hung in the air with fluidity and flexibility and it is mesmerising and graceful to watch. A clear commitment to her craft has prevailed here and it is an utterly elegant act.
Deliciously self-indulgent, this showcase exhibition extravaganza is fabulous with a capital F and is a night oozing with fun, sex and glitter. Be prepared to clap and cheer your way through as these are “fame hungry creatures” and their dramatic ways are set to enchant, entice and uplift you by the end.
