After an amazing response last year we have once again resurrected our Brighton Bites mini-interviews. These short and snappy Q&As offer an, occasionally witty – often hilarious, insight into the acts strutting, sailing, surfing (insert preferred form of transport here) in to join the line-up of England’s largest arts festival, Brighton Fringe. 2018 was a record-breaking year for the Fringe with over 575,000 people attending the festival; and with 2019 promising to be more inclusive than ever, our Bites aim to give you a taste of what’s in store across the 4,500+ events and performances that are on offer.
Next up, Utopia: Under Construction which is coming to Sweet Werks 2.
Describe your show in one sentence?
Utopia: Under Construction is an incredibly unique show where three award-winning comedians will endeavour to build a brave new world, in just one hour!
Why Brighton Fringe?
If anywhere is going to be accepting of three comedians trying to actually build a utopia on a stage – it’s going to be Brighton! We’ve been told it’s the friendliest festival out there and we can’t wait to perform.
How did the show get to where it is today?
We started touring the show over a year ago in the South West. Over that year, we’ve played to audiences of 50 to audiences of 2. We’ve worked hard on the show and we’ve been rewarded with some very kind audience and media feedback.
What do you think sets your show apart from all the other festival offerings?
It’s silly, very funny and is almost certainly the only show at the Fringe to involve actual building work! The show is a cross between stand-up and theatre, the likes of which have never been seen before!
What show do you not want to miss at this year’s Brighton Fringe (apart from your own!)?
Louise Leigh – Identifiable
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given, or would give, for performing at a fringe festival?
Work really hard and enjoy every moment of it!!
With the theme of this year’s festival being ‘DARE to Discover’, we’d like you to tell us a TRUTH – something about you or the show that fans may not know.
The show features three comedians: Christian Russell-Pollock, Eliza Fraser and Jon Matthews. This is Jon Matthews’ first ever time in Brighton!!
Utopia: Under Construction runs at Brighton Fringe from 27 May – 2 June 2019. Brighton Fringe takes place between 3 May – 2 June 2019; www.brightonfringe.org
