BRIGHTON BITES: The Creative Performance Company – The Stroop Effect

Back by popular demand for 2017, our Brighton Bites series offer short, witty and slightly tongue-in-cheek insights into shows performing at England’s largest arts festival. Hopefully, they will whet your appetite to try something new at this year’s Brighton Fringe.
Here, The Creative Performance Company tells us about their show, The Stroop Effect, which they’ll be performing at The Warren.

How would you describe your show in one sentence?
A colourful, psychedelic trip through the world of dreams and all things sleep related.

Why Brighton Fringe for this show?
As a company starting out, its a brilliant location/ festival to showcase up and coming work and will give us the experience we need as a group.

How have you been preparing for Brighton Fringe?
We have been working intensively to produce work to a standard that Brighton holds, as well as working intensively we have been promoting ourselves and our work though social media e.g. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and getting in contact with local radios

What do you think sets your show apart from all the other festival offerings?
What sets us a part from the other shows, is that we are combining various aspects of theatre, such as Physical Theatre, Epic Theatre and putting our love for Psychology, Sleep (how it effects the mind) and our interest for organic healing, into one exciting performance full of colour and energy.

What’s the show that you don’t want to miss at this year’s Brighton Fringe (apart from your own)?
Dark Matter . For us, Dementia and old age can normally go hand in hand with comedy, The fact this company is performing it through puppetry and with different styles of theatre as a serious matter, really caught our imagination.

What’s the best bit of advice you’ve ever been given for performing at a Fringe Festival?
“see as much theatre as you can”

If your show was a flavour of ice cream being sold on Brighton Pier, what would it be?
A Dairy Free, Neapolitan ice cream with a Bubble Gum topping.

The Stroop Effect runs at Brighton Fringe 30 May & 1 June 2017
