Our Brighton Bites series offers short, witty and slightly tongue-in-cheek insights into the offerings at England’s largest arts festival. Master illusionists Morgan &West tells us about their show, Morgan &West’s Utterly Spiffing Spectacular Magic Show for Kids (and Childish Grown-Ups!), which they’ll be performing at Republic, Brighton.
How would you describe your show in one sentence?
Bafflement, mystery, and over-the-top fun for all disguised as fine facial haired magicians.
Is this your first visit to Brighton Fringe, if so what interesting tales have you been told about what to expect?
This will be our fourth Brighton Fringe appearance so we’re looking forward to having a jolly good time! We love the excellent audiences and good food. But we’re not so keen on the seagulls being less than gracious in where they leave ‘presents’. That shirt will never be the same…
How has the show developed on the way to Brighton?
We now have a fear of travelling after having to cancel a show last year when a tyre blew out on the motorway when heading for the Brighton Fringe…
How have you been preparing for Brighton Fringe?
Breaking out the woollen bathing costumes ready for a dip in the sea. If you see us on the beach, try not to faint at the sight of our bare ankles.
What do you think sets your show apart from all the other festival offerings?
Where else can you find a pair of dashing, daring, and debonair gentleman-magicians ready and willing to sacrifice life and limb in order to wow and amaze even the most cynical of five-year-olds?
What’s the show that you don’t want to miss at this year’s Brighton Fringe (apart from your own!)?
Peter Antoniou: Happy Medium. What that chap doesn’t know about you isn’t worth knowing.
If your show was a flavour of Brighton Rock, what would it be?
Tutti-Fruti. You don’t quite know what to expect and then it knocks your socks off.
