BRIGHTON BITES: Grist to the Mill – The Unknown Soldier

Back by popular demand for 2017, our Brighton Bites series offer short, witty and slightly tongue-in-cheek insights into shows performing at England’s largest arts festival. Hopefully, they will whet your appetite to try something new at this year’s Brighton Fringe.
Here, Grist to the Mill Productions tells us about their show, The Unknown Soldier, which they’ll be performing at The Rialto Theatre.

How would you describe your show in one sentence?
Thought-provoking and humourous official Edfringe 2016 Sell-out play cast a new perspective on comradeship, betrayal and of promises both broken and kept following the carnage of WW1.

Why Brighton Fringe for this show?
The Unknown Soldier performed at Brighton Fringe last year and got good reviews and response from the audience.

How have you been preparing for Brighton Fringe?
Rehearsals, marketing, going through props and costumes – pretty much the usual preparation but with more excitement and nervousness.

What do you think sets your show apart from all the other festival offerings?
The show garnered an array of 4 and 5 stars reviews and sold-out it’s run at the Assembly Hall in Edinburgh Fringe 2016, and most importantly audience has been telling us how much they enjoyed the show. Not saying that others shows haven’t, but we’re very happy and proud of what The Unknown Soldier has achieved.

What’s the show that you don’t want to miss at this year’s Brighton Fringe (apart from your own)?
There’s quite a lot – the one great thing about festivals is that apart from performing you also get to see so many shows and learn from them.

What’s the best bit of advice you’ve ever been given for performing at a Fringe Festival?
If you received good reviews and good audience response for your debuting year, bring it back next year!

If your show was a flavour of ice cream being sold on Brighton Pier, what would it be?
Apple pie with custard – it’s traditional but with a good twist.

The Unknown Soldier runs at Brighton Fringe 5, 8, 11, 25 May 2017
