BRIGHTON BITES: Clownstepping – Blooming Surprise

Our Brighton Bites series offers short, witty and slightly tongue-in-cheek insights into the offerings at England’s largest arts festival. Venezuelan performer Saras Feijóo tells us about her showBlooming Surprise, which she’s performing at The Warren, Brighton.

How would you describe your show in one sentence?

A story about loneliness, hope and love.

Is this your first visit to Brighton Fringe, if so what interesting tales have you been toldabout what to expect?

Yes, it is my first visit indeed! I have been told to expect lots of sweet experiences and many friendly people around.

How has the show developed on the way to Brighton?

This show is in a constant internal development, although the main theme keeps the story contained within loneliness, hope and love, I’m still processing the feelings throughout the performance to give my best every time I perform it.

How have you been preparing for Brighton Fringe?

As with Memories of a Lullaby, I have been preparing for Brighton Fringe putting my heart into this process, taking one step at the time, meeting many people to ask for necessary advice; writing a good press release, creating flyers/posters, other and materials and so on. There is so much to do!

What do you think sets your show apart from all the other festival offerings?

Blooming Surpriseis a one-woman theatre clown show that started with my own story about confronting loneliness far away from my family, friends and loved ones, and how I found thestrength inside myself to continue to walk my own path and be truthful to my heart. Althoughit does start with my own personal story, I transformed it into the universal, a reflection of every audience’s hearts and lives. Even if our stories are not the same, I believe every member of the audience will find a space throughout the piece for their own experiences

What’s the show that you don’t want to miss at this year’s Brighton Fringe (apart from your own!)?

I have been so busy preparing for Brighton Fringe as well as other projects, that I haven’t been able to prepare nor choose any show but once I’m over I will try to see as many shows as I canbecause I believe that the selection for this festival will be truly awesome!

If your show was a flavour of Brighton Rock, what would it be?

If any, Blooming Surprise would be a flavour of Life. Life understood as a Universal subject.

Blooming Surpriseis being performed 14-15 May2016
