BRIGHTON BITES: Broken Silence Theatre – Bug Camp

Back by popular demand for 2017, our Brighton Bites series offer short, witty and slightly tongue-in-cheek insights into shows performing at England’s largest arts festival. Hopefully, they will whet your appetite to try something new at this year’s Brighton Fringe.

Here, Broken Silence Theatre tells us about their show,Bug Camp, which they’ll be performing atRialto Theatre.

How would you describe your show in one sentence?
A joyous collision of imagination, memory and loss powered by strawberry laces and Metallica.

Why Brighton Fringe for this show?
You can try new things and there’s a fantastic audience waiting to be surprised -we’re hoping we can help do that. Plus we’re regulars – this is Broken Silence Theatre’s fifth year at the fringe and debuting our new work here is always exciting.

How have you been preparing for Brighton Fringe?
Many theatrical push-ups and narrative squat-thrusts, getting excited about the work our friends are cooking up and generally working up a frenzy in rehearsals thinking “I sure hope someone enjoys this as much as we do”.

What do you think sets your show apart from all the other festival offerings?
It is the only show featuring an all female cast that combines James Hetfield with shopping in Waitrose and behaving like a child.

What’s the show that you don’t want to miss at this year’s Brighton Fringe (apart from your own)?
Trainspotting at Sweet King Alfred’s -saw this at the Vaults last year and it assaulted my senses and fizzed my brain. In a good way.

What’s the best bit of advice you’ve ever been given for performing at a Fringe Festival?
Get more decent sleep (advice from myself after last year’s fringe).

If your show was a flavour of ice cream being sold on Brighton Pier, what would it be?
Nutroast.

Bug Camp runs at Brighton Fringe 20-23 May
