A First for Opera North: The Turn of the Screw Live Streamed for Free

by Mark Clegg

Opera North’s current production of Benjamin Britten’s spine-chilling chamber opera The Turn of the Screw will become the first Opera North production to be streamed live in full online.

The Turn of the Screw will be streamed live from Leeds Grand Theatre on OperaVision on Friday 21 February at 7.30pm GMT and will be available to watch for free until Friday 21 August 2020.

A haunting ghost story with a psychological twist, our edge-of-your-seat production of The Turn of the Screw opens in Leeds on Saturday 15 February. Directed by Alessandro Talevi with set and costumes by Madeleine Boyd and lighting by Matthew Haskins, it will be conducted by Leo McFall with a cast including Sarah Tynan as the Governess, Nicholas Watts as Prologue/Peter Quint, Eleanor Dennis as Miss Jessel, Heather Shipp as Mrs Grose, Jennifer Clark as Flora and Tim Gasiorek as Miles.

Britten’s chilling opera combines menacing spirits, a troubled Governess and the children she has vowed to protect, to nail-biting effect. But are the phantoms real, or is it all in the Governess’ fevered imagination? Test your nerves and watch the trailer for a terrifying taste of the production. For full fright effect, turn the sound up loud!
