Georgie and Cassie have their worlds turned upside down when an email from the United Nations lands in their inbox. Stuck in dead-end jobs, feeling underappreciated and overworked, they initially brush it off as spam, but when the KGB and CIA get in touch, they realise it’s their ticket out of administrative hell. Thrust into their new roles as world leaders they have to think quick to solve pressing world problems. Can climate change be solved by creating a buzzy new bee-themed cryptocurrency? Will an orgasm tax help to abolish tax evasion? And most importantly, could a musical number be the solution to eradicating nuclear war?
Georgina Thomas and Cassie Symes aka Thick ‘N’ Fast have a world of potential within their script. Written with sardonic humour similar to W1A or Veep, combined with light-hearted friendship antics that you would see in Broad City, it’s clear that these witty women take their inspiration from a realm of different sources. By mixing in a variety of side characters, also played by themselves, it’s a good way to further the plot and add a bit more depth to the storyline. The catty newscasters broadcasting alongside the news reel projections in the background bring the biggest laughs from the audience, while the frat bro style peace keepers are also another hilarious duo portrayed by Thomas and Symes.
While some productions would struggle to incorporate these additional characters into the performance without turning it into a quick-fire style sketch show, Thick ‘N’ Fast have done it cleverly, by merging them into the script and not detracting from the main plot, but still allowing them to shine as stand-alone parts. They both have clear chemistry on stage and bounce off of each-other remarkably well. Thomas especially has fantastic comedic timing and hilarious subtleties – a natural performer and comedian.
With a girl-power pop soundtrack bound to get you tapping your toes, along with their sassy and satirical storyline it’s hard not to want more from the talented duo in this hour-long performance.
