While the full programme won’t be announced until later in the year, organisers of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival have today previewed some of the highlights.
Artistic Director William Galinsky will direct a major new production of The Tempest in The Hippodrome, Great Yarmouth. The building is the UK’s only surviving purpose-built circus, featuring the ability to completely flood the circus ring.
Galinsky will collaborate on the work with designer Laura Hopkins, lighting designer Mikes Brookes and composer Nick Powell to create a visual spectacle for modern audiences.
Other highlights announced today include Fierce Light,the world premiere event and exhibition from14-18 NOWbringing together poets of international standing with contemporary filmmakers and visual artists to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First World War and stagings of Chris Thorpe’sacclaimed playsConfirmationandAm I Dead Yet? a one-night-only performance by singer-songwriter and political activistBilly Bragg andan evening of French song and poetry with the unconventional ensemble troupe, I Fagiolini (pictured above).
The newly announced acts join the previously announced Race Horse Company, Kemal Yusuf, Sans Objet, Lisa Fischer and the acclaimed trilogy The James Plays.
The Festival runs13 – 29 May 2016with the full line-up announced later in the year.
