NEWS: Idina Menzel to return to UK: London, Manchester and Edinburgh

One-time Wicked Witch of the West Idina Menzel is set to return to London in October (after a glorious gig at the Royal Albert Hall last autumn) for a one week residency at the Apollo Theatre, followed by appearances at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall and Manchester’s Palace Theatre.

The Tony winner will perform with a 25-piece orchestra, singing songs from her vast musical theatre career (including creating the rôles of Maureen in RENT and Elphaba in Wicked, the latter both here and on Broadway), plus some from her own albums and numbers from Glee, the hit TV show she has enjoyed a recurring rôle in in recent years.

Menzel is also known for her rôles in Michael LaChiusa’s The Wild Party, the film version of RENT and the live-action Disney movie Enchanted. Her next film project will be in the upcoming Disney feature Frozen, with Kristen Bell.

Idina’s tour last year was made into a DVD, Barefoot at the Symphony, and her one-off date in London included unforgettable moments such as an a capella rendition of For Good, dedicated to the audience, songs from a personal favourite of hers, Funny Girl (plus a brilliant ‘meeting your hero’ anecdote about Barbra Streisand), a moving tribute to the late RENT composer Jonathan Larson and a fantastic finale of The Way We Were, accompanied by its composer, Marvin Hamlisch. With this standard of concert already under her belt, Idina’s week-long show is sure to be packed with spine-tingling moments and buckets of charisma.
