Original Rock of Ages cast member and star from American Idol Constantine Maroulis will return to the five times Tony Award nominated musical from the 4th August for a limited 12 week run to reprise his own Tony Award nominated performance as Drew in the Rock’n’Roll Jukebox musical.
Maroulis made his Broadway debut in the Tony-Nominated production of The Wedding Singer and most recently starred in the dual title rôle of the first Broadway revival of Jekyll &Hyde and on its National Tour, for which he received a Drama League Award Nomination for Distinguished Performance. Additional theater credits include Roger in the national tour of RENT and the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway production of Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris. Constantine was a finalist on the fourth season of “American Idol” and later a series regular on the CBS daytime drama The Bold and The Beautiful, which featured original songs from his debut album “Constantine,” released on his own label, Sixth Place Records.
Talking of his return to the hit show Maroulis said:
Before anyone ever cared where I would perform, I was a kid from Rock of Ages. It’s where I walked. It’s where I ran. It’s where I cried. It’s where I bled. It holds a special place in my heart. People there have seen me grow up. I sometimes feel like I’m their son. Their passion can be overwhelming. But it drives me. I want to give them hope when I can. I want to inspire them when I can. My relationship with Rock of Ages is bigger than Broadway. I didn’t realize that four years ago. I do now… I’m ready to accept the challenge. I’m coming home.
The hit musical has just celebrated its fifth birthday on Broadway where it currently plays at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Rock of Ages is produced on Broadway and worldwide by Matthew Weaver, Michael Cohl and Jonathan Linden/S2BN Entertainment, in addition to Carl Levin, Jeff Davis, Barry Habib, Scott Prisand, Reagan Silber, Relativity Media, Janet Billig Rich and Hillary Weaver.
