NEWS: New writing musical season From Page to Stage at the Landor Theatre, London

Following the current trend and development of fresh material and writing, the question of a home for new material may have been answered. Katy Lipson of Aria Entertainment has joined the artistic director at the Landor Theatre, Robert McWhir, to present a season of new musical theatre including showcases, workshops and new international musical theatre writing.

The new material will be presented by a wide range of writers and producers including a showcase of songs from www.newmusicalsongbook.com, a website created with the publisher Stagescripts Ltd, A Stage Kindly and The New Musical Network which promotes the online sale and exposure of original musical theatre songs along with a number of rising stars.

The From Page to Stage season kicks off with Welsh writer Annemarie Lewis Thomas presenting An Evening of Music and Lyrics on February 15th. February will see an explosion of new writers present their work with The Road To Qatar! by David Krane and Stephen Cole performed on 16th &17th, and Alexander S Bermange’sThe Route to Happiness following 19th – 24th. Metamorphosis, a new musical by Tim Anfilogoff and Alan Whittaker will take to the Landor stage on February 27th, before February 28th – March 2nd when an evening of three mini-musical and comedy songs entitled Bitesize takes to the stage.

Continuing a season of new talent, the Landor will host a series of one-night shows including Accidental Songs – The Words and Music of Andy Collyer on March 3rd, 3 Writers from 3 Countries, a collection of material from three international writing teams debuting on March 8th and In Here – The Music And Lyrics Of Charles Bloom, presented by the New Musicals Network performed March 10th.

The award-winning Irish-American new musical Emerald, by Denise Wright and Chris Burgess, will also be at the Landor March 13th. The show follows the abandonment of a Manhattan life to save the seaside town of Ennismuck, West Ireland from property development and the battle an abusive relationship. Emerald won the 2013, Sidney Brown Award for New Musical.

The new writers season will close with Preview, a selection of material from some of its upcoming projects to be shown at theatre in 2013, on March 15th. The New Musical Songbook Gala is on March 16th, an evening of music by British writer Dougal Irvine (Departure Lounge, Britain’s Got Bhangra) on 17th marking the season’s close.

A season packed full of new material and individual work (with the bright lights of London’s West End no doubt within reaching distance), the Landor’s From Page to Start looks like a great season to support and experience the best of British talent.
